The eternal question that is sometimes difficult to answer: is a leader born or made ? Who has not listened “this guy is a born leader”? How true is this affirmation? In theory, a good leader is supposed to know what stimulates and motivates his employees and how these motivations work.
It is said that we all have a leader within us and, in fact, there are some innate qualities in good leaders that grow from childhood, like emotional intelligence or the ability to communicate with others. Nevertheless, these aptitudes need to be developed further over the years or they are likely to disappear.
There are multiple stands regarding the question of whether if leaders are defined just by having certain innate traits or it is also a matter of getting good quality training and pursuing continuous development of leadership skills. Whatever the case, everyone agrees that a certain skillset is paramount to be a great leader.
The skill of management, in essence, is the ability to coordinate the members of an organization to get a goal by motivating with willingness and passion, not with tyranny. This is why the key components to be a good boss are:
- Talent, a good leader must understand others.
- A boss must also have the ability to influence the beliefs or actions of others, since influence is more valuable than commands.
- Ability to shape attitudes and behaviors.
- Fundamentally, a manager should be able to create a stable climate in the company that he manages.
Although there are people who are born with these innate qualities that make it easier to be a good leader, there is no reason to worry if this is not your case. Proper training can get you the qualities and skills that are essential to achieve this.
